Daljit Singh (ophthalmologist)

Daljit Singh is an Indian ophthalmologist and the former honourary surgeon to V. V. Giri, the erstwhile President of India. Born on 11 October 1934 to a College Professor, at Amritsar, in the Indian state of Punjab, he did his early schooling at Khalsa School and Khalsa College in the city and graduated in medicine from the Government Medical College, Amritsar in 1956. After working as a general physician for two years, he secured a master's degree (MS) in ophthalmolgy in 1963 and followed it up with the higher qualification of DOMS in 1969.〔
Singh served as a member of faculty of the medical colleges in Amritsar and Patiala for 23 years and became an Emeritus professor of the institutions.〔 The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 1987. Seven years later, he received Dr. B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian medical award from the Medical Council of India in 1994.〔
